By far the biggest reason marketer’s lose subscribers from their mailing lists is lack of follow-up. This may sound horribly simple, but it is the plain truth. Failing to keep in touch with your email list is the surest way to kill an otherwise thriving business. The question is, how can you effectively follow-up?
The follow-up letter. The first step to keeping mailing list subscribers is to insert a series of follow up letters into your auto-responder service. Yes, many of you have done this. So have I. Unfortunately as time goes by and we go onto other projects, we tend to lose sight of what we were accomplishing. Therefore, take some time and write as many “keep in touch” letters as you can. Then plug them into your auto-responder service for time-delayed transmission. That way you can be sure your contacts are kept in touch while you move on.
Give yourself a reminder. Set a date on your email service to remind you that it is time to update your subscribers. MS Outlook has tremendous value in this area. If you don’t have a copy, then I suggest you think about getting one. Or, for lack of money, perhaps get a wall calendar and mark times, say monthly, when you should send out another batch. It is simple things like this that can keep your prospects happy.
Add value. Nothing says “stay with me” more than value. What do I mean by value? Why, free of course. That means that you could write some valuable tips and tricks and include them into a newsletter to be sent out once a month. Or perhaps you could invest in some PLR material and use that. PLR is hardly expensive and such a great way to keep your mailing list happy. Not to mention that your subscribers will be more inclined to spread your name around if they feel like they are getting something of true value.
Ask for input. When in doubt, ask. Send your email list a poll and ask them what they desire. That may appear superficial, but why not do a little research and give your subscribers exactly what they want? Isn’t that why they accepted your opt-in in the first place? Who better than your customers know what they want? Don’t you want to know how to best serve them?
Be sincere. This is the most pertinent point of the article. Don’t just shove a bunch of junk in your subscriber’s faces and expect them to follow along. People know sincerity when they see it. If you fail at this mission, then you may as well change professions right now. You absolutely must care about your subscribers if you are determined to build your mailing list. Ask yourself, how can you best fill their needs? Answer and deliver that and you will be successful.
Don’t you want to build your email list? Don’t you want to have a thriving customer base? Don’t you want to stop losing subscribers from your email list? I assume the answers to the preceding questions are a big collective “yes”. Then follow these simple steps. Plus keep looking for more articles such as this and follow the advice. Then perhaps add to it since only you know what your niche is all about.
We can all have huge mailing lists if only we take the time to invest in our subscribers. Give them value. Give them information. Give the FREE stuff. Just be sincere and stay in touch! Good luck and great marketing to you!
